The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Tirana organized the Election Night and the Election Breakfast, with the participation of the government representatives, diplomatic corps, civil society, politic representatives and media. At Rogner Hotel Europapark were present more than 200 Albanians and Americans, that attended all together the election results in the U.S. During this election event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Lulzim Basha emphasized the importance of good relations between Americans and Albanians, and also the importance of this election process in U.S.
This event was also appreciated by the Political Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Tirana Mr. Paul Poletes and by the President of AmCham, Mr. Philip Bay. During his speech, Mr. Philip Bay invited all the guests to be part of the symbolic election process organized at Rogner Hotel for the Albanian Citizens. All guests had the possibility to realize a symbolic vote through the same voting ballot used in the U.S., to express symbolically their vote for the next President of the U.S.
This event last until the first hours of the morning, where most of the guests wait the first results and the speeches of the candidates for president.
After this, the event continued with the Election Breakfast, where the U.S. Ambassador in Tirana Mr. John Withers announced the election results of this election process according to the first results, the winner candidate the democratic candidate Barack Obama, also appreciating this election process as one of the most democratic of the U.S. and the candidates as the best political campaigners of the U.S. politics.
The Ambassador Withers took advantage of the arrival of the President of Albania Mr. Bamir Topi, to announce also the results of the symbolic voting process, that elected as winner the democratic candidate Barack Obama. The results were 101 votes for Mr. Obama and 56 votes for Mr. McCain.
Mr. Bamir Topi thanked Mr.Withers for the invitation declaring that these elections were a good political lesson for Albanians.
