The American Chamber of Commerce organized the first meeting of its Women in Business Action Committee, on 21st July. The idea for the Committee, which was put forward by AmCham President, Mr. Philip Bay, when he was running for President, has finally come true. About twenty-six well-known women representing AmCham business members participated in the first working meeting of the Committee.
“This is the first and only time I am chairing the proceedings of the Committee, which, in fact, is your committee, and I will take part in it only when you invite me to,” were the words with which Mr. Bay addressed the women participating in the meeting. The Committee is a first of its kind in the Region and Europe, and it aims at organizing activist women into a Committee, making them as successful in the areas of decision-making and politics.
During the meeting, AmCham members introduced themselves and the businesses they represent, and also put forward ideas on how to organize the efforts of the newly-established committee within AmCham and how to carry out the electoral campaign during these six weeks. The meeting came forward with the proposal to allow participants more time to reflect and run for chairperson of the Committee, and to send their written proposals to AmCham. Later they would organize their “small electoral campaign” for getting the votes of the Committee members, similarly to the procedure followed for voting AmCham Board members. Voting will be carried out to appoint one of the nominees as the future Chairwoman of the Women in Business Action Committee. President Philip Bay encouraged participant women to run for the position of Chairperson, as their legitimate right to be leaders and organizers, in addition to being capable businesswomen. |
